As a part of our November 2011 relaunch we've made some significant, yet simplifying changes to the way VIPControl operates with particular focus made to our Domain Management.

Logging into VIPControl and proceeding to Manage Domain Names will present you with a brand new interface for your domain management. The new interface collects live data to ensure all information is up-to-date with a focus on ensuring your domain management options are always available and fully functional. The new interface is designed to be more intuitive to allow for easier management of domains as well as add some nifty new features. If you do have a large number of domains you may be interested in looking at our new domain reseller platform as that offers even more flexibility.

Some key points on the new interface:
  • We've done away with the dropdown options, instead to manage options (such as; domain locks, contacts, child nameservers, etc) you will click the domain name.
  • Your nameserver/DNS setup is outlined in the 'Service' column - to change your nameservers (or service such as DNS hosting or forwarding) you simply click the existing option.
  • The Manage Domain Names page now only lists 10 domains per page to ensure it loads quickly, you can adjust it to display more via the 'Edit Preferences' link at the bottom.
  • Domain names still with our legacy wholesale providers (Distribute.IT and eNom) won't appear in this list, to view those you can click the 'legacy domain management' link.
  • The expiry column lists the number of days until expiry, you can adjust this to show the actual date via the Edit Preferences link at the bottom.
  • Setting your domain contacts no longer requires you to create a contact file, please outline below for further details.
  • There are now more available features for our DNS Hosting (i.e. AAAA record support) and Web/Email Forwarding options (i.e. 300/301 redirects).

Changing your nameservers/service

Adjusting your nameservers or service of your domain is now easier than ever. One simply needs to browse to Manage Domain Names and click the existing setting in the Service column to bring up the page featured in the screenshot below. This new page condences the old setup process down into a singular page where you can set the following options:
  • Custom Name Servers - This can be used where you need to set nameservers other than ours (such as where you use your own whitelabel nameservers).
  • Park Domain - Select this option if you don't have anywhere you specifically want to point it to at the time.
  • Free DNS Hosting - You select this option if you wish to use our Free DNS Hosting setup to manually configure your A, AAAA, CNAME, TXT and MX records.
  • Web/Email Forwarding - This option is beneficial for those wanting to point their domain to their website (i.e. their internet providers web space) or forward emails onto another address.
  • VentraIP cPanel Hosting - Use this option if you have a hosting service with us.
  • VentraIP WHM Reseller Hosting - Use this option for your Reseller customers.

Setting up your Free DNS Hosting or Web/Email Forwarding

Selecting the options Free DNS Hosting and Web/Email Forwarding are now easier to configure than ever. The new VIPControl setup means selecting one of those options will simply re-load the page ready for you to configure it's new setup immediately. In the image below you can see how easy it is to configure both of these options:

Managing general domain options

With these changes we've completely done away with the dropdown options within Manage Domain Names. To manage your domain contacts, child nameservers, view your EPP Key, Renew your domain or move your domain to another VIPControl account, simply click the domain name on the Manage Domain Names screen. This will send you through to an easy to use options page which outlines key information regarding your domain name, along with buttons to manage the aforementioned features on your domain. An example of this page can be seen below.

Important to note, the configuration of your contacts on your domain(s) no longer requires you to create a contact file first. Simpy proceed to your domain name overview (via VIPControl > Manage Domain Names > Click the domain > Contacts) and enter the details you wish to set.
